2025-2026 School Improvement Council (SIC) Annual Report to Parents
Introduction
The School Improvement Council (SIC) at East Edisto Middle School is pleased to share this Annual Report to Parents. This report provides an overview of our school’s progress toward improvement goals, highlights key initiatives, and shares outcomes from the current school year.
East Edisto Middle School earned an Excellent rating on the 2024–2025 School Report Card. As the largest middle school in Dorchester District 2, we are currently operating over capacity. Rezoning for the 2026–2027 school year has been approved to help address overcrowding. Despite these challenges, our students continue to perform above district and state averages, demonstrating the strength of our school community and instructional programs.

School Improvement Goals
Our primary SIC goal this year was to strengthen relationships between the school and the community while expanding students’ awareness of future career opportunities.
A second goal focused on improving communication around MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports), a framework used to provide academic and behavioral support based on individual student needs. This goal aimed to ensure that parents better understand student data and how it supports learning and growth.
Strategies and Actions
Goal 1 – Career Opportunities
- Hosted an Annual Career Expo featuring forty-one businesses, organizations, and agencies, providing career exposure for all students in grades 6–8.
- Expanded career-related experiences through initiatives such as Reality Town, job shadowing, SCOIS, and career-focused classroom activities.
- Shared information with families through social media and ParentSquare highlighting the 14 National Career Clusters to increase awareness of career pathways.
Goal 2 – Strengthen MTSS Communication with Parents
- Collected baseline survey data to better understand parent knowledge of MTSS.
- Our MTSS program provided regular communication (every three weeks) to families including updates on grades, behavior, attendance, and assessment data.

Next Steps
Next school year, we will continue to strengthen and expand our business partnerships by increasing the number of organizations participating in our Career Expo and providing additional job-shadowing opportunities for students. We will also expand career exploration activities within classrooms to further connect learning to real-world applications.
The School Improvement Council will continue to refine communication with families by providing clear, user-friendly updates on student progress and expanding opportunities for parent feedback. We will also use survey data to guide improvements and ensure that parents have timely, meaningful information to support their child’s success.
